When we say the flowers of Istanbul, many of us think of their beautiful scents…
Spring is here… The beautiful city of Istanbul is legendary for its unique beauties in almost every subject. It has identified itself with the most beautiful of the fragrant flowers offered to us by nature. Here are the flowers that bring Istanbul to our minds when we hear their names, that we say are the most beautiful in Istanbul in this season, and that can be enjoyed in spring…
Erguvan
The first on the list of Istanbul’s flowers is the redbud. Adorning every part of Istanbul with its unique pinkish purple color in April-May every year, the redbud offers spectacular views. A Bosphorus tour is the best way to experience and photograph this riot of colors, especially along the Bosphorus. This beautiful tree, whose flowers bloom before the leaves with the arrival of spring, has been decorating Istanbul since the Byzantine period. If you want to experience the Erguvan, which can be seen on almost every corner, Emirgan Grove, Aşiyan, Boğaziçi University Campus, Hisarüstü, Vaniköy are the main ones…

Tulip
The tulip bulbs planted in February slowly green up in March and in April, tulips in a thousand and one colors can be enjoyed. Although Istanbul is not the homeland of the tulip, it has been the favorite of Istanbul since the 1500s. Especially during the Ottoman period, tulips were of great importance. Tulip motifs were not only cultivated but also used in many areas from architecture to works of art. If you ask where you can see the most beautiful tulips, Emirgan Grove, Fethipaşa Grove, Sultanahmet Square, Gülhane Park are the best ones. Although every part of Istanbul is decorated with tulips from streets to alleys in April, you can see many colors and species together in these places. Especially with the Tulip festival held in April, everywhere is colorful and beautiful…

Hyacinth
Fragrant hyacinths… Purple, pink, white, blue colors. They start decorating Istanbul in March, just before the tulips. They remind people that spring is coming with their fragrance.

Purple Hyacinth
Another fragrant flower in purple, blue and white colors is the purple panicle. Purple wisteria, which does not choose soil, can easily grow in many places. It is a plant that usually surrounds places such as walls, fences and building walls. When the weather starts to warm up, purple wisteria, which starts to cover the streets of Istanbul, can bloom 2 times a year under suitable conditions.

Sakura (Japanese Cherry)
We have featured Sakura flowers on our blog before. Sakuras, Japanese cherry blossoms, which symbolize rebirth, bloom in late March and shed all their flowers after about 10 days. Although the real pleasure of this flower is in Japan, it also grows in some places in Istanbul. My favorite place to visit is the Japanese garden in Baltalimanı.

Istanbulensis (Istanbul Crocus)
Istanbulensis (Istanbul Crocus), which grows only in Istanbul and takes its name from Istanbul… Istanbulensis is among the 18 endemic plant species that grow only in Istanbul.
